5 Schools in Kedah Closed Down due to Sivasanggara Cluster

‘Targetted Enhancement Movement Control Order’ (TEMCO) in 4 affected districts following the addition of 11 active COVID-19 cases for the Sivasanggara cluster. The implementation of TEMCO in Kedah is in an area involving public movement areas within a radius of 1 kilometer from Nasi Kandar Salleh Restaurant, Hosba affecting 4 nearby township.

The Kedah National Security Council (MKN) has decided to order five schools in two districts in the state to be closed for 28 days starting 3rd of August 2020 involving 14 days quarantine period and 14 days observation period. The schools involved in the Kubang Pasu district are Sekolah Menegah Kebangsaan (SMK) Hosba, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Hosba, SMK Megat Dewa and SK Megat Dewa.

Two primary school children aged seven and 10 were confirmed positive for COVID-19 on Sunday after getting infections from 8,976 patients from the Sivagangga Cluster in Kedah. All patients were admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Alor Setar to be isolated and receive treatment.

In a similar development, the state NSC also stipulated that teachers living in the TEMCO area were not allowed to attend work at all. Meanwhile, permission to go through the TEMCO area is only allowed for teachers who live and teach outside the area in addition to those involved in ‘essential services’. Teachers living outside the TEMCO area are also not allowed to go to schools in the TEMCO area.
